Mommie's birthday and Lake McConaughy

We're going back in time with these next couple posts. Before I went to the Lehner Family Reunion back in Wisconsin The Carmody family celebrated Kim's birthday on August 11th. We then drove out to western Nebraska to Lake McConaughy for the weekend. Kim and the girls were starting their 2 week trip back to Omaha for R&R and visiting all of the family and friends there. We spent the weekend "Redneck Style" by renting a mobile home at a beach "resort" on the shores of "Big Mac". Also joining us for the weekend were our friends, Rick and Tina Mueller and Tina's boys, Adam and Eric and their pint-sized dog, Zeus.

Lake MacConaughy is the largest lake in Nebraska and is a man made reservoir. It's about 14 miles long and a couple miles wide with a white sand beach all around it as it was built in a sand dune area. It's really a great place to camp and enjoy a beach vacation in a land-locked area.

Our expectations of the "trailer" were very low and it turned out to be really quite nice (at least for our trailer. I can't say the same for the Mueller's trailer). 2 bedrooms, bathroom, living room and kitchen with A/C. The layout was very similar to the trailer my family owned in upper Wisconsin when I grew up.

The weather was less than spectacular for our beach vacation. We were able to play in the water (Adam has a jetski and an innertube to tow) Saturday morning but it was very windy. Thunderstorms rolled in Saturday afternoon and it poured and poured all day and through the night. I think I know how Noah felt with the amount of rain that came down! We did go to a very interesting restaurant Saturday night in the town of Paxton. It's called Ole's Big Game Grill. The place is full of stuffed and mounted animals from around the world. Any type of animal you can think of were in there. Polar bears, elephant, lions, antelopes and more. Our table was right under a Giraffe. These are real animals as the dates and photos of the animals are shown as well. Most were from the 1950's an 60's when it must have been allowed to hunt some of these animals.

On Sunday I drove back with the Mueller's back to Denver and Kim and the girls continued on to Omaha. I'll post the photos of Omaha next.
