Mackenzie's 1 month birthday (and Mattie's 34 month birthday!)
Sunday marked Mackenzie's 1 month birthday. We all enjoyed birthday cake (actually chocolate cream pie) and a round of "Happy Birthday to You":
Mattie of course couldn't be leftout. She wanted a candle in her piece as well and we got to sing "Happy Birthday to You" another time. It's fitting since it was technically Mattie's 34 month birthday as well:
Mackenzie had her 1 month check-up on Monday. She's grow and doing great. She now tips the scales at a mighty 8lbs 4oz. Here she is with Dr. Staerz:
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young
I went and saw CSNY last week the 17th of July at Red Rocks. Unfortunately, Kim was not up for the show so my friend Adam when with me. What a great show. They played all their big hit plus a ton of new left-wing political songs from Neil Young's "Living with War" album. The highlight must have been the new song "Let's Impeach the President". The crowd went wild for it. Here are the lyrics:
"Let's impeach the president for lying
And leading our
country into war
Abusing all the power that we gave him
And shipping all
our money out the door
He's the man who hired all the criminals
The
White House shadows who hide behind closed doors
And bend the facts to fit
with their new stories
Of why we have to send our men to war
Let's
impeach the president for spying
On citizens inside their own homes
Breaking every law in the country
By tapping our computers and
telephones
What if Al Qaeda blew up the levees
Would New Orleans have
been safer that way
Sheltered by our government's protection
Or was
someone just not home that day?
Let's impeach the president
For
hijacking our religion and using it to get elected
Dividing our country into
colors
And still leaving black people neglected
Thank god he's racking
down on steroids
Since he sold his old baseball team
There's lot of
people looking at big trouble
But of course the president is clean
Thank
God"

3rd Annual Fish Day West...
Last Saturday, July 15th, we hosted our 3rd Annual Fish Day West party. For those of you who don't know about the real "Fish Day" party, it's the biggest party of the year back in the small fishing town that I grew up in. Actually, I went to grade school and high school in Port Washington and grew up in the really small town of Saukville, 2 miles away. Port Washington is right on Lake Michigan and for the past 40 years or so they have thrown "The World's Largest One-Day Outdoor Fish Fry". I guess every place needs to be known for something and for what it's worth this is Port's claim to fame. The whole town shuts down for the day (always the 3rd Saturday in July) of beer drinking, fish and chips eating and parade and fireworks watching. People from all the towns in the area turn out and it's quite a spectacle. It just so happens that quite a few of my friends that I grew up with in Saukville now live out here in the Denver/Boulder area. Eric Weber, Rick Mueller, Mike Jacoby, John Gabarek, Vicky Roden. We now gather at our house to celebrate "Fish Day West" the same day as the real Fish Day. Our college roommate, John Meinel and his family and our neighbors, Mark, Anita and Seth and our friend in from Omaha, Sara and her daughter Campbell also joined us this year. It was a blistering 101 degrees out for us but that didn't stop us from cooking and eating (and drinking) all day and night, not wrapping things up till about 11:00 at night. We all had a great time and can't wait till next years party!
Mattie explains what "Fish Day" is to Blakely (Weber) and Seth:
